Asalaam alaikum / Peace be upon you:

MAPS-AMEN Executive Director, Aneelah Afzali, has been selected as one of the only five speakers to take the stage at the Rally before the Women’s March in Seattle, coinciding with the Women’s March in DC, this Saturday!  Please make it a point to attend and participate.

The upcoming rally and march will take place this Saturday, Jan. 21, starting at 10am at Judkins Park (2150 S. Norman St., Seattle, WA 98144).  This march is in solidarity with the national Women’s March that is happening in Washington, D.C.  The event is open to ALL (men, women, and children), and is a wonderful opportunity for our community to stand strong and proud with our allies.

The purpose of the march is to stand for justice for all (as the Quran commands us), in solidarity with marginalized and targeted communities (including Muslims), and to make clear that women’s rights are human rights.  The national march is spearheaded by national co-chairs including Sr. Linda Sarsour.  You can read more about why Sr. Linda is marching here

You can travel to the event at no cost on one of the MAPS vans. Please register here

More info about the march itself is here  and here

There is also a pre-event informational gathering and sign-making event tomorrow night, Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7pm, at MAPS MPR in order to make sure the American Muslim community is prepared, visible and heard at the march.  Please attend and learn more about the event and help make creative signs!  More info here

MAPS and its arm MAPS-AMEN (American Muslim Empowerment Network) support the Women’s March in Seattle, and we hope you will join the wider and broader Muslim contingency from the greater Seattle area that will be marching together in solidarity on Saturday.

Jazakum Allah khairan / Thank you
